Corporate Bond Rating The credit rating of corporate bond is divided into 10 ratings from AAA to D depending on the degree of ability to pay principal and interest. Among the ratings, from AAA to BBB are classified as investment rating in which ability to pay principal and interest is recognized and from BB to C are classified as speculation rating that is greatly influenced by environmental changes.

  • AAA
    The ability to pay principal and interest is the highest.
  • AA
    The ability to pay principal and interest is very good, but somewhat lower than AAA bonds.
  • A
    The ability to pay principal and interest is good, but it is more susceptible to economic conditions and environmental deterioration than upper ratings.
  • BBB
    The ability to pay principal and interest is good, but it has a higher possibility of decrease in the ability to pay principal and interest in the future depending on economic conditions and environmental deterioration than upper ratings.
  • BB
    The ability to pay principal and interest is not a problem at the moment, but it has speculative factors that can’t be assured for future safety.
  • B
    It is speculative with the lack of ability to pay principal and interest, and the interest payment at the time of recession is not certain.
  • CCC
    It is very speculative with an unstable factors in payment of principal and interest, and with great risk for default.
  • CC
    Unstable factors are even greater when compared to upper ratings.
  • C
    Has high risk of default and no ability to pay principal and interest.
  • D
    Unable to pay.
